This whole afternoon was a huge surprise. The weather had been foggy and overcast most of the day. But the wind had picked up and you could see the clouds starting to break up. I headed out to the western viewpoints around 2 pm with equal parts hope and resignation. As the afternoon wound down, the sun started breaking through the clouds and illuminating the canyon. I then went into high gear trying to capture as much as I could while the light lasted. The wind picked up further, howling and cold, as I rushed from viewpoint to viewpoint using the shuttle bus as a temporary wind break. As the light faded and I caught the last bus back to the village, I was elated -- what a grand afternoon.

I'm a photographic artist based near Nashville, Tennessee. I love to travel and have been from border to border and coast to coast all across the United States. And everywhere I go, I take my camera and try to capture the many beautiful sights my home country has to offer.
