Walking among the giant dunes at Sossusvlei is an overwhelming experience. The desert is the oldest on earth; the dunes, the highest on earth. It can be daunting for the traveler on foot. But it's also very beautiful.

Early in the morning and late in the day, when the sun's rays sweep across the surface of the dunes at an acute angle, the character of the dunes is revealed. Broad swatches of light and shadow intermix to form soaring, swirling shapes in the distance. Up close, tiny footprints give evidence of the surprising number of creatures that call the desert home.

I had broken away from the rest of the group and wandered off in search of... I wasn't sure. I found myself ignoring the towering dunes around me, instead drawn to the intimate details of the desert over and over. This image was one of my favorites from an afternoon of shooting in the dunes.

I'm a photographic artist based near Nashville, Tennessee. I love to travel and have been from border to border and coast to coast all across the United States. And everywhere I go, I take my camera and try to capture the many beautiful sights my home country has to offer. Recently, I have begun traveling internationally as well and that has opened up a whole world of new photographic opportunities. I'm glad you stopped by my page to check out my images.
