Description
It was the end of a frustrating evening. The road we were out shooting on separated back-lit Walvis Bay, to the west, from a front-lit lagoon backed by sand dunes, to the east. While the sun was higher we repeatedly looked for flamingos in the lagoon, but every time we spotted one, it would get up and fly off to the west.
I was beginning to feel that this evening was going to be a bust. But then the sun dropped lower and dimmed a bit and the water calmed down. As I noticed the reflections of the sun coming off the water I began to get excited. The closer the sun drops toward the horizon, the faster it seems to move and I found myself racing to find the right shooting angle, with one flamingo silhouetted in the sun's reflection. I was also waiting for just the right gesture by the flamingos. This image was one of only two I took that evening where everything came together.

You know I never would have noticed that if you hadn't pointed it out. Thanks.
