I'd heard our guides talk about the Quiver Tree Forest as the last stop on our itinerary, and they kind of downplayed it relative to all of the other wonderful places we had visited in Namibia, so I wasn't sure what to expect. In fact, I wasn't expecting much. I was so wrong!

I'd seen photos of the place before, but it was nothing like being there. These tree were so cool! They looked like something out of a Dr. Seuss book. And when we arrived in the forest that evening for sunset, the light was incredible. The sky took on a range of subtle pastel colors, which changed depending on the direction you were shooting.

It was a challenge finding a clean composition with several other photographers around, but that's always the way it is when you're with a group. I wandered away from the pack quite a bit to find this composition that I really liked. I loved how the progression of colors in the sky gave way to the earth's shadow at the bottom.

I'm a photographic artist based near Nashville, Tennessee. I love to travel and have been from border to border and coast to coast all across the United States. And everywhere I go, I take my camera and try to capture the many beautiful sights my home country has to offer.
