Description
I love these little guys! This photo was taken on Half Moon Island, part of the South Shetland islands along the Antarctic Peninsula. The snow covered island in the background is Livingston Island. This was our second island stop on our journey to Antarctica. It was probably my favorite island because of the number of penguins on the island. I hiked up a hill on the island to the penguin rookery near the top. We were not allowed to approach the penguins too closely, so I used my long lens and stood back and watched their curious behavior (there was no restriction on them approaching us). I heard a noise that sounded almost like a donkey braying and looked over to see this lone penguin standing on a rock and calling out to the colony. I took this photo before the penguin stopped and returned to the rookery.
