Artist's Description
I had arrived at Crater Lake National Park on the last weekend that the Park's rim lodge would be open for the season. They were predicting snow for that night. I spent that first day driving around the crater stopping to view the lake from various angles all around the rim. Then late that afternoon it started snowing, not heavily, but enough that you knew it was going to stick around. The next morning I woke up early to go out exploring with my camera. It was beautiful; pristine snow covered everything. I walked out behind the lodge and found this viewpoint. It was still overcast to the east, but, as I waited, the sun broke through the clouds enough to illuminate the western rim of the crater and I got this shot.
