Artist's Description

Our ship, the Ocean Nova, had finally arrived at the Antarctic Peninsula after the tossing and turning of the Drake Passage crossing. We'd just returned from our first Zodiac boat excursion to Barrientos Island and excitement was running high. We were here! In Antarctica!

The summer sun set late that evening and no one was in any hurry to go to bed. I was wandering the outside decks with my cameras, not wanting to miss a single frame of the changing light. And this evening turned out to have some of the best light of our journey.

I made my way over to the starboard side of the ship and saw this cloud of mist rising over the snow and backlit by the setting sun. The ship was moving so I had to work fast. I only managed to capture a couple of shots before the light changed. Buy I got the shot I wanted.

About Duane Miller

Duane Miller

I'm a photographic artist based near Nashville, Tennessee. I love to travel and have been from border to border and coast to coast all across the United States. And everywhere I go, I take my camera and try to capture the many beautiful sights my home country has to offer. Recently, I have begun traveling internationally as well and that has opened up a whole world of new photographic opportunities. I'm glad you stopped by my page to check out my images. I hope that you find something you like, and that one or more of my photographs will find a place in your home or office.
