Description
Jokulsarlon is far and away my favorite place in Iceland. At the iceberg lagoon you get to see ice make its final journey from the glacier to oblivion. The icebergs calve off the foot of the glacier and then spend sometimes years making their way across the lagoon until they are small enough to float out the channel between the lagoon and the North Atlantic Ocean. Once free from the lagoon, the icebergs have no chance as the ocean waves smash them back onto the rocky volcanic shore, pounding them over and over until there is nothing left but tiny shards of ice. I could spend days here photographing that journey.

I have a friend that went to Iceland a couple years ago and her jewel ice rocks on the beach are still in my head. The moment I saw this, I knew where it was taken. Beautiful shot!
