Description
We were out in the zodiac boat on a crisp December morning, cruising from iceberg to iceberg in the waters of Pleneau Bay on the Antarctic Peninsula. It was one of the few days of really good weather on this trip and the skies were sunny and mostly clear.
As we came around the side of a large iceberg, we came across this lagoon-like inlet. Our zodiac driver couldn't take us inside because that wouldn't be safe, but he managed to get us as close as was safely possible.
I had become obsessed with photographing icebergs on this trip; each one we encountered was unique in its own way. So while this lagoon seemed unusual, it was no more unusual than the many other strangely-shaped icebergs we had come across. It turns out icebergs are a lot like snowflakes in this regard.
